EV charging by electricity price
An EV that charges uncontrolled starts charging the moment it's plugged in - regardless of whether the electricity price right then is the most expensive of the day. EnergyWizard instead shifts charging to the cheapest hours, with one guarantee: the car always reaches a chosen minimum level (e.g. 50%) by a chosen time in the morning, no matter the price - price optimization must never come at the cost of the car actually being charged when it's needed.
The system supports several cars at once, each with its own minimum level and schedule, and balances the available power between them when they charge at the same time. There's also support for cars without their own connection to the house - state of charge can be entered manually when a car model lacks a ready-made integration.
Just like with the heat pump, much of the value comes from solar surplus: when the solar panels produce more than the house is using right then, EV charging is prioritized with that surplus before it's sold cheaply back to the grid.
